UPDATE: Summer 2009 - Adult admission to the North Carolina Aviation Museum will be undergoing a slight increase, from $7 to $8, as of Sept 1. Admission for students (under 18) remains at $5 and children five and under will still get in absolutely FREE.

The all-volunteer Board of Directors was forced to institute the change at the July 28 quarterly meeting "due to the rapidly rising cost of doing business, even for 501(c)(3) non-profits like the NCAM," says General Manager/Curator Rick Bondurant.

"We hate price increases around here like worst enemies, but we have to do our best as a non-profit to try and at least break even each year so we can continue to progress as a museum," stresses the former Myrtle Beach AFB Community Relations Chief. "The board felt a small adults-only increase was the best answer to the bottom-line battle we are facing in the near future."

Officials also voted to begin the museum's "Pre-Winter Schedule" Nov 1. The NCAM will be closed on Mondays throughout November, but otherwise will be operating under normal hours (Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 1-5 p.m.).

Beginning Dec. 1, the NCAM will switch to its "Winter Schedule," which includes closing on both Mondays and Tuesdays until April 1. Once again, however, the museum will still be open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, from 1-5 p.m.

As of April 1, 2010, the NCAM will revert back to its "Normal Schedule" of Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Sunday, from 1-5 p.m. This schedule will be in effect until Oct. 31, 2010. The museum is also closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

UPDATE: Winter 2008 -  The first of several future exhibit areas called "The Curator's Corner" opened in time for Christmas 2008. The "corners" are sections which allows patrons close-up browsing (but please don't touch) many of the museum's newest arrivals. Items on display there are usually fresh out of the box and on initial display until a permanent home is created for them. A big thanks here goes to Asheboro High School Senior Devon Goy for his outstanding efforts assisting with the set up of this, and other, NCAM exhibits!!
